EAN 2021 | Impact of age of onset on MRI metrics in MS

Raffaello Bonacchi, MD, IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy, discusses the potential effects of the age of onset of multiple sclerosis (MS) on MRI metrics. There is debate on how much the age of onset should be considered when determining which disease-modifying treatment is best for a patient. Dr Bonacchi discusses a pseudo-longitudinal study in which MRI scans of patients with pediatric-onset MS were compared with those of patients with adult-onset MS. Differences in grey matter volume loss and white matter integrity loss were found between the two groups. This interview took place during the European Academy of Neurology 2021 congress.
