AHS 2022 | Sex as a biological variable in headache research

Amynah Pradhan, PhD, University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, IL, discusses sex as a biological variable in headache research. With much work in the headache community showing that sex is a biological variable in pre-clinical studies, the NIH has begun to specifically push this due to variability between males and females. Knowing that headaches and migraines are more prevalent in females, it is now possible to further understand this from a mechanistic perspective – thus, knowing if this imbalance between sex is being reflected in pre-clinical models and how to probe these mechanisms for novel therapeutic targets. This interview took place during the 2022 American Headache Society (AHS) Meeting in Denver, CO.
