MDS 2022 | Home Care Design for Parkinson’s disease

Carlo Alberto Artusi, MD, University of Torino, Torino, Italy, describes the Home Care Design for Parkinson’s disease research program. The project aimed to develop guidelines for designing and creating a functional and safe home environment for people with Parkinson’s disease to enhance their autonomy and quality of life. The theoretical and methodological approach was based on Human-Centred Design, which involved the patients directly. This made it possible to focus on the specific needs and expectations of people with Parkinson’s disease and their families and to define the different design solutions that could follow the evolution of symptoms and adapt according to the patients’ and caregivers’ needs. Following the creation of these guidelines, the next step will be implementing them in a real-world setting. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
