ESOC 2022 | Does bridging thrombolysis impact clot composition?

The role of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) bridging therapy prior to thrombectomy remains an area of substantial debate, with mixed findings from studies to date. Rosanna Rossi, PhD, National University of Ireland Galway, Galway, Ireland, shares the findings of a study looking at the effect of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) on the size and histological composition of 1000 clots retrieved with mechanical thrombectomy. It was shown that prior administration of alteplase did not impact clot composition but did influence clot size. Bridging therapy clots were significantly smaller than clots retrieved after thrombectomy alone. This interview took place at the ESOC 2022 congress in Lyon, France.
