CONy 2022 | Challenges in treating epilepsy in the developing world

Ley Sander, MD, PhD, FRCP, FEAN, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, London, UK, discusses current barriers low- and middle-income countries face in treating epilepsy. Whilst enzyme-inducing antiepileptic treatments are cheap in the short term and can provide patients a normal life, long term alternative therapies can be unaffordable for patients in those countries. Prof. Sander emphasizes the need for novel, efficacious therapies that are cost effective and can ideally prevent epilepsy. This interview was conducted during the 2022 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) meeting.
