EAN 2021 | Interleukin 1B in MS: analysis of a polymorphism in the gene promoter region

Higher expression of interleukin 1beta has shown to lower severity and lower the EDSS score of MS. Bárbara Guerra Leal, PhD, University of Porto, Porto, Portugal, explains that a polymorphism in the gene promotor region accounts for lower expression and is the cause of several inflammatory diseases, including MS. Her research is focusing on understanding how higher expression of interleukin 1beta is responsible for this lower severity. This interview took place during the European Academy of Neurology 2021 congress.
