AAN 2021 | Understanding the post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC)

Igor Koralnik, MD, FAAN, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, IL, describes his group work that aims to understand the causes of long-term COVID-19 symptoms. In general, patients with mild conditions recover without the need for hospitalization. However, some patients that experienced mild symptoms develop neurological manifestations called post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC). Dr Koralnik’s group is exploring the hypothesis that this manifestation is caused by a dysregulation of T-cell response against SARS-CoV2 proteins, using blood samples from patients. He also explains the use of T-cells from patients with symptoms but negative tests to know if they had been exposed to the virus. This interview took place during the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2021 Annual Meeting.
