ESOC 2022 | Moving forward in stroke genetics: post-stroke outcomes and recovery

For many years, investigators have examined the impact of genetics on an individual’s stroke risk. This data has provided invaluable insights into stroke pathology, etiology, and prevention. Less is known about the influence of genetic variation on stroke outcomes and recovery. Marios K. Georgakis, MD, PhD, Mass General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA & LMU Munich University Hospital, Munich, Germany, highlights this as the next step in the field of stroke genetics. Studies are underway looking at the genetic architecture of stroke recovery, with early data pointing towards the role of excitotoxicity. This interview took place at European Stroke Organisation Conference 2022 in Lyon, France.
