IHC 2021 | Epigenetic mechanisms in migraine

Lyn Griffiths, PhD, Queensland University of Technology, Queensland, Australia, discusses the current understating of the role of epigenetic mechanisms in migraine etiology. Although epigenetic changes research is not as advances and genomic studies, some small studies are looking at epigenetics and migraine. Epigenetics encompasses changes to the DNA structure without changing the genetic code. Additionally, epigenetics interact very strongly with the environment. Epigenetic mechanisms may underlie a part of migraine pathophysiology and may play an important role in the hereditability of migraine. This interview took place during the International Headache Congress 2021.
