Social determinants of health are the conditions in the environments where people are born and live that affect a wide range of health and quality-of-life outcomes and risks. Lilyana Amezcua, MD, FAAN, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, discusses social determinants of health and how these could be important targets to tackle disparities in neurology. Social determinants of health can be grouped into different domains: economic stability, healthcare access, education access, neighborhood environment, and community context. The identification of the different domains helps the development of specific interventions. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
