World Sleep 2022 | The convenience of once nightly sodium oxybate in sleep disorders

Anne Marie Morse, DO, FAASM, Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA, discusses the use of once nightly sodium oxybate administration in patients with sleep disorders. One attractive trait is the conveniency of the medication; patients would describe the inconvenience of having to take medication multiple times a day. When patients were given the option of formulations, it was identified that once nightly formulas were a common choice. Additionally, when the same evaluation was repeated amongst providers, there was a similar draw towards the once nightly option; this may be due to greater convenience of dosage. From a patient’s perspective, a medication that is taken once nightly allows for a more consolidated experience – not disrupting sleep for multiple dosages where sleep is already disrupted. This interview took place at the World Sleep Conference in Rome, Italy.
