Agne Straukiene, MD, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, Torquay, UK, comments on increasing research on the causes of multiple sclerosis (MS) to reduce the likelihood of developing MS. Whilst there are multiple known factors such as vitamin D deficiency, childhood obesity, smoking and exposure to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) that can affect the immune system and hence increase the risk of MS, population-based studies are required to uncover the causes of MS. Investigating certain diets in trials will also be important to assess their role in reducing inflammation. This interview was conducted during the 2022 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) meeting.
