Stefanie Prast-Nielsen, PhD, Karolinska Institute, Solna, Sweden, discusses the role of the gut microbiome in seizure disorders. Although it is known that a section of the gut microbiota plays a role in seizures, it is yet to be elucidated which specific microbes are important for which type of seizure. Dr Prast-Nielsen comments on studies which have demonstrated the importance of the gut microbiome in seizures. The role of the gut microbiota in brain development is also discussed. This interview took place at the 14th European Epilepsy Congress (EEC) 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland.
