CONy 2023 | Early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease: biomarkers & provocative tests

Michael Ugrumov, MD, PhD, Koltzov Institute of Developmental Biology, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia, talks on the use of blood-based biomarkers for the early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. Over the last few years, there has been an increasing number of novel candidate biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease. However, results from studies attempting to identify biomarkers in body fluids are contradictory, and some biomarkers are not fully specific to Parkinson’s disease. A new methodology has been proposed using a provocative test at the preclinical and prodromal stages, which is successfully used in internal medicine. This interview took place at the 17th World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
