CONy 2021 | Female sex hormones & migraine

Simona Sacco, MD, University of L’Aquila, L’Aquila, Italy, discusses the role of female sex hormones in migraine. In women, the incidence and severity of migraine have been associated with the steroid hormone estrogen, which fluctuates in concentration during puberty, pregnancy, menopause, and the menstrual cycle. The association between migraine and estrogen is highlighted by the triggering of migraine by menstruation in a significant proportion of women. This interview was conducted during the virtual 2021 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) meeting.
