CONy 2021 | The evolutionary importance of CGRP

Lawrence Robbins, MD, Robbins Headache Clinic, Riverwoods, IL, talks on evolutionary medicine and how evolutionary history may help evaluate the safety of new treatments. For instance, the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) has been important in various species for hundreds of millions of years, and it is known that it plays a crucial role in many physiological processes. Dr Robbins explains that if CGRP had been looked at from an evolutionary standpoint, maybe strategies blocking CGRP would be used more carefully and not continuously. This interview was conducted during the virtual 2021 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy).
