ACTRIMS 2022 | Genetic biomarkers of MS susceptibility and the gut microbiome

Mitzi Joi Williams, MD, Joi Life Wellness Group, Smyrna, GA, provides an overview of the session on multiple sclerosis (MS) biomarkers and the prodrome presented at the ACTRIMS Forum 2022, including topics relating to genetic factors and familial risk of MS, as well the role of the gut microbiome and fecal microbiota transplantation in MS. Dr Williams additionally discusses radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS) and strategies to predict which patients with RIS will progress onto MS, as well as efforts in elucidating biomarkers of heritability in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This interview took place at the ACTRIMS Forum 2022 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
