Mitchell Elkind, MD, MS, FAAN, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, New York, NY, discusses the work carried out by the American Heart Association (AHA) to tackle stroke care during the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to concerns of reduced stroke and heart attack presentation during the peaks of the pandemic, the AHA launched the ‘Don’t Die of Doubt’ to emphasize the importance of hospital care for medical emergencies. Additionally, the Get With The Guidelines Stroke Registry of over 5 million patients has allowed analysis of the impact of the pandemic on stroke care, in order to identify and address obstacles. This interview took place during the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2021 Annual Meeting.
