Eva Kubala Havrdová, MD, PhD, General University Hospital, Charles University, Prague, Czechia, describes the main challenges of an individualized treatment strategy for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). An early diagnosis and choosing the right treatment remain the most significant challenges. Dr Havrdová highlights the importance of clearly explaining to patients that the treatment is focused on preventing future disabilities rather than reversing existing symptoms. Additionally, balancing the side effects of the treatment and the disease itself is highly important in the management of MS – without treatment, the prognosis is considerably worse. This interview took place at the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) Congress 2022 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
