AAN 2021 | Addressing epilepsy treatment delays in the US

Swapna Reddy, JD, DrPH, MPH, Arizona State University, Phoenix, AZ, shares her thoughts on the research needed to address treatment gaps in specific subpopulations of patients with epilepsy in the United States. A recent study using Medicaid claims data assessed the role of social determinants of health and patient demographics on treatment delays in Arizona. Dr Reddy hopes this research will spur similar studies, in order to better identify what the problems are and who they are affecting. Understanding the treatment gaps at a national level will allow the implementation of solutions. This interview took place during the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2021 Annual Meeting.
