Many years of research into the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as a treatment for insomnia has led to a wealth of evidence supporting its use as the gold standard approach, rather than pharmacologic management. While long-term studies and investigations into comparative efficacy have solidified the role of CBT in this setting, much remains unknown about the intricacies of psychological intervention. Michelle Jonelis, MD, Redwood Pulmonary Medical Associates, Redwood City, CA, discusses current research aiming to refine and optimize CBT techniques, as well as how to make it more accessible to low-income areas. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
