MS Frontiers 2022 | Addressing the MS care paradox in the UK

Joela Matthews, MPharm, Barts Health NHS Trust, London, UK, addresses the multiple sclerosis (MS) care paradox that exists in the UK National Health Service. While substantial steps forward in basic understanding and clinical research have led to the availability of a plethora of novel safe and effective therapies, imaging techniques, and prognostication tools, care services are unable to keep up with the advances. A lack of specialist staff is certainly not a new struggle and Dr Matthews suggests that the community needs to think differently. It is critical to streamline services, automate processes, and delegate tasks to other healthcare professionals where possible. Making services more efficient nationwide is important to make sure all patients receive equal opportunities and daily practice can keep up with the rapid scientific and technological advances. This interview took place during the MS Frontiers 2022 congress in Swansea, UK.
