Jaime Masjuan, MD, PhD, The Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal, Madrid, Spain, discusses the importance of thinking beyond pharmacological interventions for the prevention of recurrent stroke. The devastating mortality and long-term disability rates associated with stroke are even higher for recurrent strokes. Prof. Masjuan highlights the importance of analyzing the etiology of stroke in these patients and intervening not only with medical treatments, but also with lifestyle changes and device therapies such as patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure or left atrial appendage (LAA) closure. This interview took place at the European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC), 2021.
