Augmentation is defined as a worsening of restless legs syndrome (RLS) symptoms after starting a dopaminergic medication to treat RLS. Evi Holzknecht, MD, Medical University of Innsbruck, Innsbruck, Austria, describes the benefits of systematic monitoring of augmentation risk factors in RLS. According to Dr. Holzknecht, informing therapy regimens based on screening of patient-reported outcomes could lead to reduced augmentation rates.
