ECNP 2022 | Towards early screening for postpartum depression

Gisèle Apter, MD, PhD, Groupe Hospitalier du Havre, Université de Rouen Normandie, Rouen, France, talks on the importance of moving towards early screening for the management of postnatal depression. The first peak of incidence of maternal postnatal depression occurs 6-8 weeks after birth. However, onset can occur much earlier, as soon at 8-10 days postpartum. Prof. Apter recommends screening at both these time points to optimize early management, which will particularly improve outcomes for the child. This interview took place at the 35th European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) Congress 2022 in Vienna, Austria.
