Dileep Yavagal, MD, University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, Miami, FL, discusses the MT2020+ Global Thrombectomy Tracking Smartphone App, one of the tools created by the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology to provide data to accelerate access to thrombectomy. The app has allowed for the global tracking of thrombectomies in near real-time – allowing for input of finished cases in an anonymous manner. This data is then tagged to a region and associated hospital, whereby the location is allocated a number, which is connected to a global map of records concerning MT. Dr Yavagal describes how this app has allowed users and researchers to identify how many thrombectomies are occurring in certain hospitals in real-time – allowing for a comparative analysis on a global level. With close to 300 users, researchers have been able to share interesting cases, discuss disparities and make strides to increase access to thrombectomies. Dr Yavagal hopes this userbase rises to 1000, expanding the reach of knowledge concerning global thrombectomy. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
