ESOC 2022 | Advanced imaging after stroke: should you use it?

Permesh Singh Dhillon, BMedSci, BMBS, FRCR, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Nottingham, UK, shares his thoughts on the debate surrounding the use of advanced imaging in the acute stroke setting. Perfusion imaging can provide useful insights into the ischemic core and penumbra, which has the potential to inform treatment decisions and identify patients most likely to benefit from endovascular therapy. On the other hand, Dr Dhillon comments on the issue of denominator fallacy, where more stringent imaging-based selection improves the likelihood of a good clinical outcome but reduces the overall impact of the treatment in the whole population. This interview took place at European Stroke Organisation Conference 2022 in Lyon, France.
