IEC 2021 | Targeting 4E-BP1 alleviates mTOR-induced epilepsy in mice

Lena Nguyen, PhD, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, CT, talks on a recent study looking at the mTOR pathway in the context of epilepsy in animal models. The results showed that targeting 4E-BP1-mediated translation, involved in the mTOR pathway, in juvenile mice with focal malformation of cortical development can significantly reduce the number of seizures. Dr Nguyen highlights that these are promising findings, and future work will explore ways to translate this into a potential therapy for intractable epilepsy associated with the mTOR pathway. This interview took place during the 34th International Epilepsy Congress, 2021.
