AAN 2024 | Advances in subdural hematoma management

Jason Davies, MD, PhD, State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, discusses recent updates in the treatment of subdural hematomas (SDH). Several adjunctive therapeutic strategies under investigation to understand their impact alongside surgery, including the use of corticosteroids and intraarterial bevacizumab injection in the middle meningeal artery. Surgical techniques are also changing, with increased usage of bedside twist drill craniostomy reducing operating room (OR) demands. Dr Davies expresses his hope that alongside the increase in OR availability, these minimally invasive bedside procedures will have significant benefits for SDH patients. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Denver, CO.
