World Sleep 2022 | Highlights from the World Sleep Congress: the biology of the circadian rhythm

Bryce Mander, PhD, University of California Irvine, Irvine, CA, mentions a key highlight from the World Sleep Congress 2022. Dr Mander states that there were several highlights from the meeting thus far – however, a keynote by Dr Phyllis Zee was inspiring. Dr Zee has a talk on the biology of the circadian rhythms and how they are in close association with sleep and its expression. This has profound implications on how we understand health across an organism – regarding metabolic regulation, gut-brain axis, Alzheimer’s disease risk, etc. All these factors are impacted by the interactions between the circadian rhythm and sleep. This interview took place at the World Sleep Congress 2022 in Rome, Italy.
