ESOC 2022 | Importance of blood pressure control after endovascular thrombectomy

Aristeidis Katsanos, MD, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, discusses blood pressure (BP) management after endovascular thrombectomy in patients with acute ischemic stroke. A recent individual patient data meta-analysis explored the association between BP levels after thrombectomy and clinical outcomes in over 5800 patients with acute ischemic stroke with large vessel occlusion. Increasing mean systolic BP levels were associated with lower odds of functional independence, and increased odds of all-cause mortality, early neurologic deterioration, and symptomatic intercranial hemorrhage. Numerous studies are ongoing to determine if BP could act as a modifiable determinant of thrombectomy outcomes. This interview took place at European Stroke Organisation Conference 2022 in Lyon, France.
