ACTRIMS 2022 | Assessing the peripheral immune compartment of patients with RIS

Patients with radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS) will typically have lesions similar to that of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) but accurate diagnoses remain a major challenge for clinicians. Raphael Schneider, MD, PhD, FRCPC, CIP, St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Canada, discusses comparisons made in the peripheral immune compartments of patients with RIS and MS. Analysis of immune cell surface markers revealed that patients with RIS who will progress onto MS tend to overexpress certain markers on T-cells that will display a pro-inflammatory phenotype and cross the blood-brain barrier. This interview took place at the ACTRIMS Forum 2022 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
