Amos Korczyn, MD, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel, discusses the debate model of the 2021 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology meeting and the importance of debate as a driver of scientific progress. Prof. Korczyn highlights the increasingly contentious theories of the amyloid hypothesis in Alzheimer’s disease and the focal implication of alpha-synuclein in Parkinson’s disease to illustrate the necessity for open discourse. By constantly assessing contemporary scientific theories, the path towards more effective and safer treatments for neurological diseases becomes clearer. This saves time, money and improves the lives of patients. This interview was conducted during the virtual 2021 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) meeting.
