AAN 2022 | Equity and inclusion in clinical research

Richard T. Benson, MD, PhD, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Bethesda, MD, talks on equity and inclusion in clinical research. National Institutes of Health (NIH) are required to ensure that all groups of society – all races, ethnic groups, genders, and across socioeconomic strata and age groups – benefit from the NIH mission, which is to decrease the burden of disease through research. This is highly relevant because research is not rigorous if people from various races and ethnic groups are omitted from clinical research, since incorrect claims might be made regarding the benefit of a drug to all groups. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
