World Sleep 2022 | Treating patients with narcolepsy: shared-decision making and a patient-centered approach

Anne Marie Morse, DO, FAASM, Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA, discusses a patient-centered approach and shared-decision making in treating patients with narcolepsy. Emphasizing the importance of this approach in treating patients with sleep disorders, this is particularly necessary with individuals with narcolepsy. Narcolepsy presents a variety of issues leading to patients requiring complex needs; beyond the excessive daytime sleepiness, there are a lot of other inferior wake experiences which patients experience. Therefore, it is important to understand from the patient’s perspective what it is that they want to optimize. This approach is not just to inform patients but to understand their life with narcolepsy and help them through it. This interview took place at the World Sleep Convention 2022 in Rome, Italy.
