Abhijit Chaudhuri, DM, MD, PhD, FACP, FRCP, FEAN, Queen’s Hospital, Romford, UK, discusses our understanding of multiple sclerosis (MS) and how we manage the disease. Despite new therapeutic options, there is still no cure for MS. Currently, the treatment options aim to reduce inflammation in the early stages of progression to reduce disability. It has been a challenge to understand the disease mechanisms, due to its combination of inflammation and neurodegenerative properties. However, lifestyle changes could reduce the effects of the disease. For example, maintaining vitamin D levels, reducing saturated fat, and not smoking could have significant effects in the younger population. This interview took place during the Virtual World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) 2020.
