AAN 2022 | Classification of disease subtypes in MS

Augusto Miravalle, MD, FAAN, University of Colorado School of Medicine, Aurora, CO, shares insights into the classification of disease subtypes in multiple sclerosis (MS). Classification in MS is moving away from traditional approaches using clinical phenotypes and towards a more accurate approach based on the underlying biology of the disease. Dr Miravelle highlights markers of acute and chronic inflammatory processes that are being used in the classification of MS subtypes, including MRI gadolinium activity and diffusion-weighted imaging. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
