AAN 2022 | Diagnosing functional movement disorders

Sarah Lidstone, MD, PhD, Toronto Western Hospital and the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, shares her thoughts on the importance of a personalized and multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of functional movement disorders (FMD). An in-depth, tailored initial assessment is critical, taking into consideration important factors beyond those assessed in a standard neurological or psychiatric exam. Given the complexity of the mechanisms at play, understanding and targeting the factors driving and maintaining symptoms is important for long-term recovery. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
