CONy 2022 | Lifestyle interventions in MS management

Agne Straukiene, MD, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, Torquay, UK, discusses the role of lifestyle interventions in the management of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. A healthy lifestyle is essential in any neurological condition and particularly in MS since it is a chronic disease. Therefore, neurologists should consider comorbidities such as obesity and diabetes type 2, which can be reversible when adequate lifestyle changes are implemented. Dr Straukiene highlights the relevance of a holistic approach in managing MS patients and emphasizes the need to assess comorbidities and mental health. Additionally, lifestyle changes should be addressed during clinical visits, as research has shown that tailored, personalized care plans improve adherence to lifestyle changes and exercise programs. This interview was conducted during the 2022 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) meeting.
