AD/PD 2022 | The importance of studying long-term COVID-19 neurological symptoms

Giulio Pasinetti, MD, PhD, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, NY, discusses the importance of studying the neurological symptoms seen with COVID-19 infection. Indeed, 40-50% of surviving COVID-19 patients report a neurological symptom, such as cognitive impairment and brain fog during infection, and 30-40% of people worldwide have neurological complications post-COVID-19. As COVID-19 has occurred only for the past two years, science of the long-term consequences of infection is just emerging. Prof. Pasinetti mentions the importance of identifying COVID-19 biomarkers, as they may aid the development of therapeutic approaches to treat long-term complications. This interview took place at the AD/PD™ 2022 International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases hosted in Barcelona, Spain.
