WSC 2022 | Gender disparities in stroke trial enrolment

Christine Kremer, MD, Skåne University Hospital, Lund University, Malmö, Sweden, addresses the issue of low inclusion of women in stroke trials. For example, a recent meta-analysis of studies of carotid revascularization showed that only 30% of participants were women. Pregnancy is another major factor leading to trial exclusion and consequently, a substantial lack of evidence to guide stroke management in this population. Paying attention to these disparities and working to improve the inclusion of women in trials is key to maximizing the representativeness of study findings. This interview took place at the World Stroke Congress 2022 in Singapore.
