MDS 2022 | Implementing device-aided treatment strategies in advanced Parkinson’s disease

Eric Freire-Alvarez, MD, University General Hospital of Elche, Elche, Spain, discusses the implementation of continuous dopaminergic delivery for the treatment of patients with Parkinson’s disease. Device-aided therapies have been shown to reduce motor and non-motor complications in advanced PD patients. In the clinic, their initiation is sometimes delayed because motor and non-motor fluctuations are not recognized. To minimize the delay and ensure the optimal use of device-aided therapies, it is important these treatments are discussed early, well before the motor and non-motor symptoms have deteriorated excessively. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
