IEC 2021 | The use of non-invasive investigations in epilepsy surgery work-up

Eugen Trinka, MD, Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg, Salzburg, Austria, discusses the use of non-invasive methods prior to epilepsy surgery. Patients referred to an epilepsy center can be revaluated for diagnosis and identify their eligibility for surgery. Prof. Trinka talks on the prerequisites for this referral, including drug resistance, a focus area of the brain, which is the site in the brain from which the seizures originate and that the focus area can be removed without further deficits to the patient. Prof. Trinka also describes electroencephalogram (EEG), video EEG and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) use in identifying these lesions of the brain. This interview took place during the 34th International Epilepsy Congress, 2021.
