IEC 2021 | Predicting seizure freedom with scalp EEGs

Lara Jehi, MD, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, discusses the use of scalp EEG findings in predicting epilepsy surgery outcomes. Dr. Jehi mentions how scalp EEG information can be incorporated in individualized outcome prediction and provide better prediction of seizure freedom after epilepsy surgery. Findings show that scalp EEG increases predictive performance. The study also highlighted the complexity of using traditional analytical approaches in outcome prediction, initiating the progression of machine learning and artificial intelligence methods. This interview took place during the 34th International Epilepsy Congress, 2021.
