Ana Catarina Fonseca, MD, PhD, University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal, discusses a study looking at the prevalence of silent myocardial infarction (SMI) in patients with ischemic stroke. The 117 patients included in the study were classified by stroke etiology (cardioembolic, undetermined, or other specific etiology) and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) was conducted. The prevalence of SMI was similar to what is reported in the general population, suggesting it is not a very relevant mechanism in this setting. This interview took place at European Stroke Organisation Conference 2022 in Lyon, France.
