MDS 2022 | Emerging neuromodulation techniques in Parkinson’s disease

Carlo Alberto Artusi, MD, University of Torino, Torino, Italy, provides an overview of current advances in treating Parkinson’s disease with neuromodulation technology. Whilst stimulatory devices can widen the therapeutic windows, certain procedures such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) may be detrimental to forms of atypical parkinsonism including multiple system atrophy (MSA) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Early stage trials assessing this form of treatment in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) have shown promising benefit. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
