MDS 2022 | The role of neuroinflammatory responses in Parkinson’s disease

Tiago Outeiro, PhD, University Medical Centre Göttingen, Göttingen, Germany, gives an overview of the current understanding of the role of neuroinflammation in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Different model organisms can be used to investigate the response elicited by the over-expression of α-synuclein. Recent studies have identified differences in gender inflammatory responses that, in the future, could provide insights into the prevalence of PD in males. Prof. Outeiro concludes the discussion with the idea of developing therapeutic interventions for PD by regulating the response of the immune system to α-synuclein. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
