ACTRIMS 2022 | Ethnic study on access to healthcare in MS patients

Mitzi Joi Williams, MD, Joi Life Wellness Group, Smyrna, GA, discusses a study looking at health claims and people living with MS amongst different ethnic groups. The goal was to determine if certain groups had more, or less access to care and if they were utilizing more healthcare services. The results demonstrated that black ethnic patients appeared to have more access to disease modifying therapies (DMTs) than other ethnicities – however, across the entire study, there were still 50% or more of patients suffering from MS who did not take or had a claim for DMTs. Dr Williams continues to mention how a lot of work is still required to ensure people are being treated and have access to treatment across the board. This interview took place at the ACTRIMS Forum 2022 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
