Susanne Schneider, MD, PhD, University Hospital Munich, Munich, Germany, describes the effects of the pandemic on managing movement disorders. Whilst COVID-19 negatively affected everyone mentally and physically, patients with Parkinson’s disease were especially impacted. Motor symptoms as well as mental wellbeing worsened as a result of restricted access to medical professionals and rehabilitation. People receiving COVID-19 treatment may also have restricted treatment regimens as a result of receiving treatment for COVID-19 in addition to reduced access to hospitals during lockdown. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
