MDS 2022 | Identifying and characterizing non-motor fluctuations in PD

K. Ray-Chaudhuri, MD, DSc, FRCP, FEAN, Parkinson’s Foundation Centre of Excellence, King’s College Hospital, & King’s College London, London, UK, gives an overview of non-motor fluctuations in Parkinson’s disease (PD), which can be categorized as cognitive, autonomic or sensory non-motor fluctuations. Patients who have non-motor fluctuations may experience issues in blood pressure, mild sweating, and sensory issues. Metacognition may additionally arise as a result and can occur in over half of patients receiving levodopa. Current tests to assess non-motor fluctuations include MDS Non-Motor Rating Scale (MDS-NMS) and Non-Motor Symptoms Scale for Parkinson’s Disease (NMSS). This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
